crafting with cards

I often get the crafting bug when staying with my mother in law Linda. I think many of my readers also follow her blog Chalky's World. If you haven't seen her blog, pop over and say hi. It's a lovely, personal read with insights into her family life and crafting!

One of the makes Linda is always stocking up on is cards. After living in Dubai for a while now, I have noticed that cards are quite expensive, and most of the time not even that nice! I am finding that William has more friends in Dubai so we often need a card or six for children!

Now we have made these cards before but we also tried a few new designs. All these ones were made using different papers appliqu├ęd onto the card and sewing on top using a sewing machine. I like the shabby chic look so the sewing is deliberately not accurate. Some have greetings added but most are left blank as they can be used for many different occasions.

I love these hearts. They are so cute. Gorgeous for valentines day, anniversary or wedding day. Or simply a thinking of you card for someone special. While making here I had an idea... I think it would be lovely to make my own papers with text in different languages. Obviously living in Dubai Arabic would be nice, perhaps just repeating 'love' in Arabic?

Funny little robots for a boys birthday.

This was a new design I had a go at. I had seen similar ideas on Pinterest but tweaked it slightly. Lines created on the sewing machine, a greeting and a selection of mismatched buttons. Love the colours. A very simple design that can be used for any occasion.

Well, my crafting has been slowly continuing while visiting family here in south devon. I have a crochet blanket that is nearly finished so will hopefully show you that soon.

Have you been busy crafting?

summer hols so far and two trips done!

2 weeks in to our summer holiday travelling and we have been very busy!

Centre parks break

We arrived back in the uk a couple of weeks ago and went straight off to centre parks to celebrate my father in laws birthday. We had a fab time! It's such a great place to go with family as there is something to do for everyone! As always, William enjoyed his time with grandma and grandad! He is getting quietly spoilt.

We visited the longleat centre parks, and two years on from our last visit, William was able to take in a bit more and run around the gorgeous forest! We had a great cabin that was right near the plaza and swimming pool, but also backed onto a pond in he pine forest so we got daily visits from ducks and their ducklings!

Sun, sea and San in Spain

After that, we jetted off on another plane, this time bound for Spain! The three of us went with my brother and his wife and had a great week there. It was so nice to just relax, lie in the sunshine, splash about in the pool... We could have easily stayed much longer.

We had some really tasty meals, including proper Spanish paela, steaks, BBQ sea bass, confit of duck... Just gorgeous food! The weather was amazing, pretty hot and in the 30oc s but we are kinda used to that!

Meanwhile, back in the uk....

We are now staying back with my in laws in south devon for a few weeks so it will be full of playing, relaxing, eating, crafting etc. all good to me! My mother in law Linda and I have been crafting his afternoon already, and have made two dozen cards using the sewing machine and some lovely papers! I will post some pics of them soon! I have also started a small crochet blanket for a friend who is having a baby in November. We will see them in a few weeks so it needs to be ready by then!

I hope you are enjoying the summer so far! Have you been anywhere nice? I would love to hear! Keep the comments coming as I love to read them and hope to catch up on blog hopping this week!
